Census shows school enrollment numbers have matched peak from 30 years ago

The 49 million students ages 3 to 34 enrolled in the country's elementary and high schools in 1999

equaled the all-time high first set in 1970

when their "baby boom" parents went to school, according to a report the U.S. Census Bureau.
