Agriculture secretary says she won't drop salmonella testing of beef in schools

Official backtracks from proposal that would have eliminated salmonella testing of ground beef for the federal school lunch program.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman has disavowed a departmental proposal to eliminate testing for salmonella in ground beef for the federal school lunch program. She says she never approved the change is keeping the tests, which the Clinton administration began last year.
