Litchfield, Conn., has a reputation as an attractive place to live with high-quality schools. But as more families choose the community over neighboring Fairfield and Hartford counties,

the school system is being overwhelmed by the arrival of new families with school-age children

. Over the last 10 years, enrollment has grown by 336 students to about 1,400, but the school system not added to the capacity of the school system since 1977.
