The Accelerated School, Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES - The Accelerated School, a future public charter school in Los Angeles, is in the design phase.

The 110,000-square-foot facility, which will accommodate 800 students in grades K to 12, is scheduled for completion in late 2003. Construction is to begin in mid-2001 and is estimated to cost $22 million.

The new facility is a four-story steel-frame structure, which will encompass 91,884 square feet of enclosed space. It includes a gymnasium, music room, art room and science labs. The school's roof will serve as a playground and an athletic area, an area for gardening and other outside activities.

Gafcon is construction manager for the project, and will work with the Los Angeles Unified School District and State School Building Program.
