St. Mary Academy-Bay View, Riverside, R.I.

St. Mary Academy-Bay View, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1874, is a private, college-preparatory school for young women in grades pre-K to 12. The new Athletic Wellness Center houses basketball courts, tennis and volleyball courts, a running track, a fitness center, aerobics room, training room, three health and wellness classrooms, locker facilities, and athletic department and physical-education offices.

It provides the resources necessary to contribute to the holistic development of the young women attending the school, as well as the wellness of faculty and staff. The Bay View athletic program includes basketball, cheerleading, crew, cross country, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and volleyball.

The new Athletic Wellness Center combines long-span, pre-engineered metal building construction with a conventional masonry exterior. The signature feature of the new building is a glass entrance lobby capped by an inverted, yellow pyramid that marks the entrance to the facility. Large windows line the front of the building providing views in and out of the state-of-the-art fitness center.

Architect for the project is Vision III Architects (Providence, R.I.).
