As facilities manager at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, Bugg is responsible for 600,000 square feet of building space covering 48 acres. The campus is situated on Bayboro Harbor near downtown St. Petersburg. The university expanded its course offerings this fall and is now a full four-year university with graduate classes. Bugg attended Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., and Shawnee State University, Portsmouth, Ohio. Before working at the university, he was an electromechanical engineer. He has been active on the university's planning and building committee since 1985 and is a member of APPA: the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers.
Licata is a 24-year veteran of the Harford County Public Schools. For the past 13 years, he has held various positions in facilities planning and construction. Licata is responsible for the system's capital-improvements program. Since 1987, he has been involved in programming, designing and administering more than $190 million in capital projects, including nine new schools and numerous additions, renovations and modernizations. Harford County has 40,000 students in 50 schools, and is in the midst of a $45 million capital program. Licata is a member of the Association of School Business Officials International and the Council of Educational Facilities Planners, International (CEFPI).
Martinez received his master of architecture degree from Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., in 1975 and his bachelor of arts degree from the University of California - San Diego in 1971. He is a founding principal of Martinez + Cutri, with headquarters in San Diego. Since the company's inception in 1980, he has directed the firm's educational and resorts divisions. Over the past 20 years, he has programmed or designed more than $200 million in educational facilities in the Southwest. Martinez taught architecture and urbanism from 1978 to 1993 at the University of California - Berkeley; San Diego State University, and The New School of Architecture.
Grimm and Parker Architects is a leading K-12 design firm in the Mid-Atlantic region. Under Parker's leadership, the firm has completed more than 120 educational projects and has won more than 50 design awards. Parker is a recognized educational facility professional with nearly 30 years of award-winning school designs. He is chairman of the Architectural Registration Board and the Architectural Review Board for the State of Maryland, as well as a director for NCARB. Parker is also a past president of both the Maryland State and Potomac Valley AIS chapters. He has served as a guest lecturer at numerous universities, conferences and at departments of education.
Swartzendruber is in his fifth year as superintendent of schools for the Waterloo Community School District. He previously was deputy superintendent for West Des Moines Community School district in West Des Moines, Iowa. While there he supervised more than $50 million in remodeling and new construction projects. He won the Association of School Business Officials International 1994 Pinnacle Award for facility planning. In Waterloo, he has put in place a $100 million facility plan.Swartzendruber has had several articles published in professional journals and has served as adjunct professor for two universities.
