Prior to new construction, the St. Louis College of Pharmacy was short on space and lacked a strong physical identity. The school developed a master plan for larger, modernized educational facilities and a more cohesive campus environment. The construction was phased to cause minimal disruption so it could be completed on an aggressive deadline while school was in session.
Between June 2001 and January 2003, the general contractor, Alberici Constructors (St. Louis) completed a three-story academic building addition and built a new residence hall that accommodates 300 students. At the same time, a 75-year-old academic building was undergoing a gut renovation, a five-story addition, and was being added to the college's parking structure.
The new eight-story residence hall was in operation by January 2003, while preparations were being made to demolish the 130-student residence hall where students had resided during the fall semester.
A city street that ran through the campus was closed and converted to a pedestrian mall. Extensive landscaping and creation of campus green space, along with new identifying signage and campus gates, concluded the project in September 2003.
