Florida schools may see construction funding increase

March 27, 2014
State lawmakers are advancing a $597 million Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) budget for 2014-15 fiscal year.

Florida schools and colleges may see much needed construction and renovations as a result of pending legislation to provide funding for statewide public school, college and university projects.

State lawmakers are advancing a $597 million Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) budget for 2014-15 fiscal year, the Herald Tribune reported.

The push is somewhat ambitious considering that PECO funding has been reduced from more than $1 billion before the recession to about $300 million for the current year. Lawmakers are looking to tap an increased gross receipts tax from businesses to supplement the PECO budget.
