Boards in Virginia opposed creation of statewide district for struggling schools

100 school boards have expressed support for a lawsuit challenging the law that establishing the statewide system

One hundred school boards in Virginia — representing more than 75 percent of the districts in the state — have passed resolutions in support of a lawsuit challenging the creation of a state board that has the authority to take over chronically struggling schools. The Washington Post says the legislature passed a law last year that allows the state to take control of any school that is denied state accreditation or accredited with warning for three consecutive years. Those schools would become part of a statewide school district.
