The Louisiana chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is challenging schools in the state to become more environmentally responsible.
The Louisiana Green Schools Challenge is a competition the council has launched to encourage K-12 schools across the state to pursue low-cost or no-cost sustainable projects that create a more healthful and productive learning and work environment, while reducing a school’s energy, maintenance and water costs. The council chapter will provide resources, including professionals in architecture, engineering and construction, to help participating schools meet their green goals.
The Green Schools Challenge will award cash and other prizes to the projects that have made the greatest sustainable impacts in their communities.
Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans is the first to sign up for the challenge, the council says. The program will run September 2013 through March 2014.
