Kentucky is launching green and healthy schools program. Program, adapted from similar efforts in Wisconsin and New Jersey, will be available for 2007-08.

The state of Kentucky is planning to launch a Green and Healthy Schools program statewide in 2007-08. Adapted from similar efforts in Wisconsin and New Jersey, the program has two parts: The Existing Schools Component encourages students, teachers, parents and community members to investigate and improve the health and sustainability of their school buildings and grounds. The New Schools Component encourages districts that are building new schools, or substantially renovating old schools, to use green building guidelines developed for Kentucky schools. Four schools in the state piloted the program in 2006-07
