It's always nice to be recognized, whether by a simple "thank you" after a random act of kindness or through accolades from peers for a job well-done.

Recently, American School & University was recognized with the highest honor in business-to-business publishing when it was selected as a finalist for the Jesse H. Neal Award — the Pulitzer Prize of business journalism. AS&U's "GREEN School & University Virtual Conference & Expo," held in June 2009, was honored as a "Best Online Tool or Application." The groundbreaking, day-long interactive event brought together industry experts and thought leaders in education facilities, business and operations.

With support and participation of the leading organizations in the education, architectural and green communities, more than 1,600 professionals from 47 states and 13 foreign countries attended numerous educational webinar sessions; participated in post-conference chats with the editors, presenters and fellow professionals; visited virtual exhibit booths to view the latest in sustainable products and services; stopped by the Resource Center to download whitepapers, presentations and other data; and much more.

The free event was so well-received that a post-event follow-up survey of attendees resulted in a unanimous desire to hold another similar event in 2010. Many participants reported that they had used the event as a training opportunity for staff and that the ability to communicate with fellow professionals regarding green and sustainable issues was invaluable.

Recognizing the need for a no-cost, high-quality event during a time when education institutions are finding budgets scarce for training and development, the second GREEN School & University Virtual Conference & Expo will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010. The agenda currently is being created, and promises to be bigger and include even more opportunities for peer networking. Check back often as more conference information is released.

New wave of education

The need for knowledge and insight into a growing complex and changing education landscape is vital for success, and the benefits of knowledge-building and peer networking to share best practices become even more important.

Recognizing this, the second GREEN School & University Virtual Conference & Expo will be held Thursday, June 24 from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. The free event once again will bring together thought leaders and fellow professionals for a dynamic, interactive event.

Last year's event can be found for a limited time in our Webinars section. In addition, you can find other educational sessions on-demand, including "Green Cleaning Your School in the Age of H1N1," "Maximizing Learning and Savings by Going Green" and more.
