In late October the University of Pennsylvania announced that all of the school’s new buildings will seek LEED Silver certification. In keeping with the guidelines established under Penn’s Climate Action Plan 2.0, the university’s newest residential building, New College House at Hill Field, is on track to achieve LEED Gold certification, second only to Platinum certification, according to the Daily Pennsylvanian.
Features of the new building include green roofs that will collect 95 percent of storm water, energy recovery units, and high efficiency lighting and air conditioning units. In addition, 75 percent of the construction waste is being recycled.
The university began construction on Hill Field last November and the $125 million building is expected to open in August 2016. The 198,000-square-foot building will house 350 undergraduate students and 15 faculty members.
