Indiana makes push for renewable resources

Indiana education officials are encouraging schools in the state to consider using more renewable energy resources. “Many school corporations are making the switch to renewable energy sources to cut costs and reduce their carbon footprint, and they are to be applauded for these efforts," says Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed. Reed cited Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon where the school is switching from a traditional boiler/air conditioning system to a geothermal heating and cooling system. The focus on renewable energy is part of a yearlong effort in Indiana called "Learn Green, Live Green." It is designed to help educators, students, parents and community members discover practical, cost-effective ways to model environmentally responsible behavior inside and outside the classroom.To read The Indiana Department of Education news release, click here.
