The South Milwaukee (Wis.) School District has received The Award for Energy Stewardship after saving more than $560,000 in energy costs in the last two years. Energy Education Inc., a company that works with schools to lower energy consumption, bestowed the award. In 28 months, the South Milwaukee district saved 93 million kilowatt hours, reduding its energy costs 21 percent. That represents 5,860 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, or the equivalent of 1,269 cars not driven for a year.
