Scottsdale schools cut energy costs

Green efforts in the Scottsdale (Ariz.) district have resulted in more than $400,000 in energy rebates from utility companies. The district's energy-saving steps include purchasing toilet paper that comes without a cardboard core, which school officials estimate will conserve 6.4 tons of cardboard. Waterless urinals have been installed in high schools. Each saves about 40,000 gallons of water per year. School buildings now have white, reflective roofs, and classrooms have lighting controlled by motion sensors. New lamps and ballasts are saving 40 to 50 percent on energy costs.To read The Arizona Republic article, click here.
