The school is planning a coordinated effort to promote green practices throughout its campus

The University of Virginia says it will adopt a program to promote sustainability in all departments of the university. The school's plans are a response to a report by the university's Office of the Architect that gave a comprehensive assessment of UVa.'s programs in support of sustainability. Among the school's most recent efforts: the university's Board of Visitors has passed a resolution requiring all new and renovated buildings meet LEED standards. The university also is creating a Grounds Improvement Fund, which has a goal of improving conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists on campus and reducing automobile use
