From The Tampa Bay Times: An elementary school expected to open in 2014 is projected to be the Hillsborough County (Fla.) School District's first LEED-certified school facility. The 950-student, $18 million school will be situated on a campus that is already home toLennard High School and Hillsborough Community College's SouthShore campus. The environmentally friendly designation will complement the community college campus, which has been LEED-certified. Some of the school's proposed energy-efficient features: enhanced lighting controls and use of daylight; waterless toilets and low-flow plumbing fixtures; landscaping that requires little or no irrigation; a reflective roof; and controls to enhance the efficiency of the air-conditioning system. The architect is Wilder Architecture and Batson-Cook Co. is the builder.
