Private school in Savannah, Ga., aims for LEED certification

Country Day School is building new home for its Lower School

The Savannah (Ga.) Country Day School is building a new Lower School that has been designed to received LEED-certified status from the U.S. Green Building Council. The 52,500-square-foot building will house grades 1-5, a media center, science facilities and administrative offices. The project will use lower-fume paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and carpets, as well as recycled materials to reduce pollution and waste. The completed facility will use 20 percent less water than comparable schools, and bike racks will be incorporated to promote alternative forms of transportation.
