St. Cloud (Minn.) Area School District 742 plans to break ground later this Spring on a sustainably designed K-8 facility. The new Kennedy Elementary School will be erected in St. Joseph, Minn., and has been designed to earn a silver LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. The site plan and window design will enable 83 percent of the school to have access to daylight; Roof panels will collect solar energy. A drainage basin will collect stormwater runoff from the site. A geothermal system will heat and cool the building. The school is scheduled to open in 2008.
