Liberty Union-Thurston district plans to follow LEED guidelines

If the Liberty Union-Thurston (Ohio) school district's construction plans come to fruition, it will have a new middle school and a renovated high school that achieve LEED certification for environmental design. The Ohio School Facilities Commission awarded the district more than $17 million to help pay for construction of a new 65,000-square-foot middle school and renovations to the existing 83,000-square-foot high school. Earlier this year, Ohio legislators allocated $4.1 billion to the Facilities Commission for school projects on the condition that all future projects be designed using the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED rating system. To secure the district's share of the project funding, voters must approve a $6 million bond request in March.
