Alabama Montessori school earns LEED certification

Hilltop Montessori School in Birmingham, Ala., has opened a 16,000-square-foot facility that has received LEED certification. Schools officials say it is the first private school in the state to receive LEED certification. Daylight provides lighting for about 75 percent of the school. Other green features include double-glazed windows and paints with low volatile organic compounds. Materials for the project came from within 500 miles of the school. The architect is HKW Associates.
