Environmental upgrades for Northern Kentucky University

School's efforts expected to save $615,000 a year.

Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights is spending about $4.5 million on energy-saving upgrades and environmentally friendly building supplies. Officials say the changes will save the school about $615,000 per year in estimated energy costs. Carpet installed in new and existing buildings will have 40 to 60 percent recycled content, and newly installed lighting will have automatic dimmers.
