Beaufort County school board has until June 9 to cut its budget by $4 million in order to avoid a large county tax increase.

The district's original budget hinged upon $118 million in tax revenue, but the city council subsequently discovered that figure was based on a faulty projection and has asked the district to revise the budget based on actual revenue of $114.8 million, according to the State.com.

Council members said the cuts are necessary to avoid an excessive tax increase, the state reported.
