Lamar (Texas) district seeks approval of a $1.72 billion bond request

The Nov. 8 ballot will have five proposals that would provide funding for several new schools, cafeteria and gymnasium space at existing high schools, a career and technology center and additional athletic facilities.

The Lamar (Texas) district is asking voters to approve a $1.72 billion bond package on Nov. 8. 

The request is divided into five parts and would provided funds for additional schools and other facility upgrades, reports the Fort Bend Star

In 2020-21, the district enrolled about 36,520 students, an increase from 26,130 students in 2013-14, according to district demographic data.

The five ballot questions:

  • Proposition A  would authorize $1.31 billion to build four elementary schools, a middle school and a complex containing a junior high, a middle school and a high school. The bonds also would pay for additional gym and cafeteria seating at several high schools, new buses and improved technology infrastructure.
  • Proposition B would provided $189.2 million to build a district career and technology center.
  • Proposition C would allocate about $16.7 million for classroom technology and equipment.
  • Proposition D would allocate about $4.9 million to add LED lighting and turf to Traylor Stadium.
  • Proposition E would help construct a 10,000-seat second football stadium.
