Voters in the Port Huron (Mich.) school district have rejected a $153 million bond package that would have helped pay for upgraded facilities.
The Port Huron Times-Herald reports that voters reject two ballot proposals—one for $125.9 million and one for $27.5 million.
In the first proposal, the district sought funds to build a replacement elementary school and an early childhood center, and carry out renovations and wide-ranging improvements at more than a dozen existing campuses. It received 4,394 votes in support, and 4,887 votes against it.
The second ballot question proposed funding for installation of air conditioning at schools and longer-range facility upgrades. It had 4,279 yes votes, and 4,976 nos.
