Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has announced an allocation of $127 million to Kentucky school districts for construction and renovation projects.

The funds to build and renovate schools are part of the $1.3 billion Better Kentucky Plan, which will expand broadband access, deliver clean drinking water and build new schools, reports WSIL-TV

According to the governor's website, $127 million in federal funds will go to local school districts for construction projects. In addition, $75 million in general fund dollars will go to build or upgrade vocational school facilities.

“These funds are going to make a tremendous difference in the lives of our kids," said Chelsey Couch, executive director of the Kentucky School Construction Facilities Commission. "From safety to technology, these changes are going to give Kentucky kids the educational leg-up they deserve,”

The commission voted to recommend funding for projects in the following districts: Hart, Martin, Floyd, Boyd, Bellevue, Mayfield, Jackson, Grant, Breckinridge, Bath, Cumberland, Pendleton and Carter.
