A donation of land and up to $5 million from a Sioux Falls, S.D., health care system will help the Sioux Falls Lutheran School build a new facility.
The private K-8 school has announced that Sanford Health will donate 30 acres of land for the school’s new facility and a matching gift of up to $5 million.
“This gift looks back to the heritage of Sioux Valley Hospital’s roots as a Lutheran hospital and forward to Sanford Health’s priority of supporting children and families in this community,” Sanford President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft says.
“Sioux Falls Lutheran School is thankful for a gift that will truly help finish a decades-old dream of a new facility,” School Board Chair Scott Peters says.
The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports that Sioux Falls Lutheran, with a student enrollment of 300, has outgrown its existing facility.
Principal Tia Esser cannot yet say where the new building will be erected, but she says 30 acres will provide plenty of space for the planned building, which will include an early childhood center, a high-school sized gymnasium, a chapel and a performing arts center.
In addition to the land donation from Sanford, the campaign has raised $2.6 million. That money will be matched 1-to-1 by the hospital.
Sanford also will match future donations 2-to-1 up to $2.4 million in an effort to help the school move forward more quickly.
The donation means a new campus could be built and operating in two to four years instead of the initial plan of five to 10 years.
