San Diego State University picks design-builder for 35,000-seat stadium

March 5, 2019
Clark Construction Group gets $250 million contract to build the facility, which is scheduled to open in fall 2022.

San Diego State University has selected a company to design and build the school's new multi-use stadium in San Diego's Mission Valley neighborhood.

The university says that Clark Construction Group will design and build the expandable 35,000-capacity stadium to support collegiate football, professional and collegiate soccer, NCAA championship games, concerts and other events.

Construction is slate to begin in early 2020, with a completion date in time for the start of the 2022 NCAA football season. The value of the contract is about $250 million, which includes the direct cost of construction.

Clark Construction and the university will go through a joint selection process for the stadium architect.

The company will proceed with the design and planning for the stadium, concurrent with the university’s negotiations with the City of San Diego to buy the land, and the development of the Draft Environmental Impact Report.

In addition to the new stadium, the development will be the site of a campus expansion, which will include a research and innovation district, a community river park and housing.
