Texas A&M, College Station, expanded sports complex

Texas A&M University is expanding and renovating its athletic and intramural fields on the College Station campus.

The university will improve the Texas Aggie Outdoor Intramurals and Club Sports by adding four synthetic turf fields to the 30-acre Penberthy Field Complex provided for intramurals and club sports. The fields will be used for sports clubs’ practices, games and tournaments for men’s and women’s soccer, rugby and lacrosse, as well as for intramural flag football.

A new drainage system and perimeter irrigation system will keep the fields and surrounding areas in tip-top shape for the nearly 49,000 student base to use. Sports lighting will be installed on all four fields to enable the fields to be used into the evening hours.

In addition to the four fields, plans include adding a new athletic facility pavilion building with checkout area for equipment and rentals, restrooms and lockers with showers and dressing rooms, a catering kitchen, concession area, equipment storage, laundry rooms and a first-aid room. A new gated entrance and fencing will surround the pavilion and fields to completely fence in the Penberthy intramural complex.

Four 500-square-foot camp sites also will be added, and will include tent pads, picnic tables, awnings and hose bibs.

Architect for the athletic facility project is PBK (Houston).
