Pine Crest Preparatory School, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Pine Crest Preparatory School, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., renovated its 14,870-square-foot dining hall and expanded the kitchen to include a new walk-in cooler and freezer. The Felicia B. Nutter Dining Hall serves about 2,000 students daily and also caters the school's special events. The $4 million project produced a space that is bright, inviting and easy to maintain.

Light pendants, wall sconces and specialized light fixtures enhance the dining atmosphere. A special ceiling-tile system with a high sound-absorbency rate controls noise.

New air-conditioning and waste-management systems make the dining hall more energy-efficient and reduce the amount of daily waste.

Because the dining hall serves as a primary gathering place on campus, it was equipped with a flatscreen monitor to inform students and faculty of upcoming events and special announcements.

The architect is Zyscovich, Inc. (Miami).
