Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, is scheduled to break ground later this year on a facility to bring all the school's music programs under one roof.
The college says that the Adams Center for Music will be a world-class performance hall that expands the college's music program. It is scheduled to open in 2028.
"This is more than a building; it is a catalyst for transformation," said Sarita Kwok, dean of the Adams School of Music and the Arts. "The Adams Center for Music will open new opportunities for our students and faculty, serve as a magnet for world-renowned performers and educators, and extend an open invitation to our surrounding community."
The center will have a 500-seat performance hall, large ensemble rehearsal room, and dedicated spaces for choral and music education. The new building, adjoining the existing Philips Music Center, will feature glass apertures along the campus pathways, providing direct views into all key performance and rehearsal spaces, according to the school.
Wrap-around seating at the performance hall's stage will provide audience members with immersive views of a variety of performances such as large choral-orchestral masterworks and chamber music, according to the school.
The project has been made possible through a gift from the estate of Stephen and Denise Adams, longtime supporters of the arts and higher education.
The architect is Epstein Joslin + Picardy Architects.
