Renovated 1930s building will become the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center.

The University of Arkansas is renovating the Old Field House on the Fayetteville campus and converting it to a performing arts center.

The Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center is scheduled to be completed in September. With a seating capacity of 650, the center will be the main performing venue for the university’s musical organizations and will be host to guest musical activities for the university and Northwest Arkansas community.

The Old Field House opened in February 1938 and was one of many Public Works Administration projects built on campus in the 1930s. The building’s historic exterior will be preserved, and the interior space will be transformed into a performing arts center.

The facility has been named for Jim and Joyce Faulkner, longtime university supporters who donated $6 million to help pay for the renovation.
