Georgia schools brace for second storm in two weeks

Georgia schools announce school closing in advance of impending storm.

All of the major school systems in the Atlanta metropolitan area announced early today that they would be closed tomorrow in response to weather forecasts that are calling for more harsh winter weather. This is in direct contrast, and in direct response, to late decisions to close schools in the wake of the snowstorm that crippled the Atlanta area just two weeks ago.

Both Gov. Nathan Deal and Atlanta mayor, Kasim Reed were highly criticized for being unprepared for the storm that left many students trapped at school and stranded overnight on school buses.  Deal has since taken the onus for the catastrophic conditions that many said had the roads looking like the set of the Atlanta-based television show, The Walking Dead. “I’m not going to look for a scapegoat. I am the governor. The buck stops with me,” the governor said in an announcement.

In an effort to redeem himself, Deal declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm. It seems that many metro Atlanta and north Georgia school districts are following the governor’s lead by announcing that they will be closed tomorrow.
