Former PTA treasurer at Missouri school pleads guilty to stealing more than $100,000

A former PTA treasurer at a Missouri elementary school has pleaded guilty to nine counts of bank and wire fraud for stealing more than $100,000 from the PTA.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri says in a news release that Holly Mikkelsen was the treasurer of Summit Pointe Elementary School in the Lee's Summit district when she stole the money.

Prosecutors say that from about Aug. 17, 2020, through July 23, 2025, Mikkelsen made unauthorized withdrawals from the the PTA’s checking accounts for her personal financial benefit. This included writing and signing PTA checks fraudulently made out to herself, withdrawing cash from automated teller machines, and transferring PTA funds to other accounts she controlled.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 24, 2026.
