The Haverford School, a private all-boys day school in Haverford, Pa., has bought the former site of Gemma Services in Radnor for $19.88 million.
The 10-building, 43-acre property is larger than Haverford's existing 30-acre campus, reports Main Line Times & Suburban.
Gemma Services was formed in 2019 through the merger of two Philadelphia-area nonprofits founded in the 1800s as orphanages. Gemma serves more than 3,000 youth and families each year through behavioral health, special education, child welfare, and prevention services.
The Gemma property acquired by Haverfgord includes a Youth Cultural Center, which has classrooms, a gym, cafeteria, religious center, offices, and maintenance area; acarriage house; a residence with apartments; offices; and a maintenance area. The property also has six cottages that were used as residence halls and a caretaker’s home. Playing fields are on the northwest side of the property.
Haverford officials say they are unsure of how they will use the property.
