The Doctors Hospital building had been vacant since 2008 and was demolished last year.

The Perry (Ohio) district is buying a former hospital site, where it will build an elementary school.

The Doctors Hospital building had been vacant since 2008 and was demolished last year, reports The Massillon Independent. The district is paying $850,000 for the site.

The district is planning to build three K-5 elementary schools: one at the Doctors site, one on the Lohr Elementary property and the third on 40 acres of district-owned land.

In 2020, voters approved a combined bond issue and permanent improvement levy to provide funds for the projects. Estimates put construction costs at about $72 million.

The schools will have a two-story academic wing, administration offices, a media center, gym, stage and cafeteria/kitchen.

Each school will be about 67,000 square feet and have a capacity of about 550 students.

TDA is the architect.

The schools are set to open in 2024.
