Lincoln College, a small private institution in Lincoln, Ill., is closing its doors next month after struggling to stay afloat as it coped with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The college will cease all academic programming at the end of the spring semester on May 13, reports The Lincoln Courier.
The college, which has been in operation for more than 157 years, said the Covid-19 pandemic hampered recruitment and fundraising efforts, sporting events, and other campus activities.
The pandemic also led to an enrollment drop. The school's enrollment is 967 students.
Officials said the institution has worked to strengthen its finances through fundraising campaigns, selling assets, and consolidating employee positions. The efforts did not create long-term viability for Lincoln College in the face of the pandemic.
