Minneapolis district and teachers reach tentative agreement to end strike

March 25, 2022
The two-week strike left about 37,000 students out of class.

The Minneapolis district and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers have reached a tentative deal to end a strike that disrupted classes for 37,000 students for nearly two weeks.

No details of the agreement have been disclosed, but the school district said on its website it is looking forward to having students and staff back in class on March 28, reports KARE 11 News

The strike began on March 8 after the district and teachers were unable to reach agreement on wages, class sizes and mental health support for students.

The union was seeking improvements such as enforceable contract language about class size, mental health support, higher wages for hourly educational support professionals, and better pay for licensed staff.
