New superintendent hired in Jefferson County (Colo.) district

April 15, 2021
Tracy Dorland has been an administrator in the nearby Denver and Adams 12 districts.

The Jefferson County (Colo.) school board has officially hired an administrator from another Colorado district as its new superintendent.

Chalkbeat Colorado reports that the board has approved a three-year contract for Tracy Dorland, who was serving as deputy superintendent in the nearby Adams 12 school district.

She replaces Jason Glass, who left Jefferson County to become state education commissioner in Kentucky.

Dorland's salary for leading the 80,000-student school system has been set at $260,000 a year. She was named the sole finalist for the position more than two weeks ago.

“The emotion that comes to me constantly is gratitude,” she said. “Gratitude for the people and the experiences I’ve had in my past who’ve helped me become the leader I am, but mostly gratitude for the opportunity to serve my home community as superintendent.”

Jefferson County says that Dorland has been deputy superintendent in Adams 12 for about 3 1/2  years; she joined that district in 2013 as chief academic officer.

Before that, Dorland worked in Denver Public Schools as Deputy Chief Academic Officer, Executive Director of Educator Effectiveness, Instructional Superintendent, a principal, an assistant principal, and a classroom teacher.
