The Broward County (Fla.) School Board has scheduled a vote next week on whether to fire Superintendent Robert Runcie.
NBC 6 South Florida reports that the vote has been requested by board member Lori Alhadeff, whose daughter Alyssa was killed in the Feb. 14, 2018, shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The vote has been placed on the agenda of the March 5 board meeting.
"The urgency to do this now is because the district is spiraling out of control," Alhadeff says. "There was no one final straw; it's culmination of failures. Mr. Runcie has demonstrated a history of poor leadership. As board members we need to be accountable to the public. I am bringing it forward regardless if I have five votes or not."
Runcie has been sharply criticized by parents whose children died in the shooting last year. Critics blame him for the failures involving school security, camera surveillance and discipline procedures related to the Parkland shooting.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has hinted that he would like Runcie to be removed, but the governor has no authority to do so.
Runcie came to the Broward County district in 2011 from the Chicago school system.
