Houston school replaces troublesome quote on wall after public outrage

Critics complained that the message painted on the wall of Gregory-Lincoln Education Center was misogynistic and victim-blaming

The Houston Independent School District has painted over a quotation on the wall of a school that drew outrage on the internet from people accusing the school of sexism and misogyny.

"A new quote is now adorning the hall at Gregory-Lincoln Education Center," the district announced on Twitter on Sunday.

The old quote, directed to female students, said, "The more you act like a lady, the more he'll act like a gentleman."

The Houston Chronicle reported that after a Houston woman posted a photo of quotation on Twitter, the image went viral.

"This outrageous victim-blaming message is painted on the wall of a MIDDLE SCHOOL in @HoustonISD," Stephanie Wittels Wachs tweeted.
