Developer offers $9 million to buy Dallas school district headquarters

Jan. 19, 2017
The district spent $46.5 million last year on a building that will serve as its new headquarters.

A developer of apartment and commercial buildings has offered more than $9 million to buy the facilities that house the Dallas Independent School District headquarters.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Leon Capital Group has won a bid to buy the headquarters buildings just east of downtown.

The school board is scheduled to vote later this month on whether to approve the sale.

Real estate brokers say the developer plans a combination of apartments and retail for the property.

Dallas school officials decided last year to sell its downtown headquarters so that it could consolidate its administrative offices in one location.

The district paid $46.5 million last year for a 16-story facility in North Dallas that will become its headquarters. Some operations already have moved to that building, a district spokesman says.
