The Allen (Texas) school district will receive $1.7 million to settle claims against an architect and builder in connection with construction flaws at a district stadium.
The district says the school board has approved a settlement with PBK Architects, Inc. and the Pogue Construction Company regarding the repair of structural flaws at the district's $60 million, 18,000-seat Eagle Stadium.
The stadium was closed in February 2014 after an extensive engineering study revealed structural problems. The facility remained closed until June 2015 while repairs were carried out. PBK Architects and Pogue Construction made the repairs at no cost to the school district.
The settlement amount is intended to compensate the school system for lost revenue and expenses during the 15 months that the stadium was out of commission. PBK and Pogue have agreed to collectively pay $500,000 by Dec. 31, 2015. Each company also will pay an additional $300,000 on April 30, 2016 and again on April 30, 2017.
"We appreciate the work of our own staff and all of the companies involved to meet the project deadlines and honor the commitment not to pass costs back to the school district for the stadium repairs,” says Board President Louise Master.
