Duncan to step down as Education Secretary

Former CEO of Chicago Public Schools has led the U.S. Department of Education since 2009.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will step down from the job in December.

The New York Times reports that a White House official has confirmed Duncan’s decision to resign. President Obama has decided to name John B. King Jr., the deputy secretary of education, to replace Duncan.

Duncan has been education secretary since 2009. Before Obama chose him for the position, Duncan was the CEO of Chicago Public Schools.
