Catholic school in Wellesley, Mass., is closing
The theme for the 2015 fund-raising drive at St. Paul Catholic School in Wellesley, Mass., was “BELIEVE in Our Future.”
Not enough people believed. School officials have announced that St. Paul is closing.
“Sadly, it is not possible for St. Paul School to open in September,” the school’s web site says. “Over the past several years, St. Paul School has faced a steady decline in enrollment. An attempt to secure solid commitments from parents for the upcoming school year was not sufficient.”
The Boston Globe reported that only 32 students had enrolled for the fall semester.
The school has been open since 1954 and served students in grades preK to 8.
“We are sorry to share such difficult news, and appreciate the efforts of all who did their best to keep the school open,” the school says.
The school's web site lists several nearby Catholic schools that could enroll displaced St. Paul students.
