The building, formerly the site of the West Virginia Unversity Medicine Crisis Support and Recovery Center, will provide enough space to house students in grades nine through 12.

The Saint Joseph School stopped offering high school instruction in 1970, but decided to revive the high school in 2025 when ninth-graders were admitted. It intends to add a grade level each year until the program includes grades nine to 12.

The diocese has committed $1.3 million to buy the high school building and help pqay for necessary upgrades. Saint Joseph School will contribute an additional $400,000 toward renovations. The school hopes to welcome students into the new facility for the 2026–27 qcademic year.

“Saint Joseph School has grown dramatically in recent years,” said Bishop Mark Brennan, leader of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. “Opening St. Joseph High School this year and moving to its first campus in 2026 reflects our diocesan commitment to the area."
