The Green Bay (Wisconsin) School District has sold one of its shuttered campuses to a local theater company.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that Keller Elementary, which closed last year, has been sold to Evergreen Theater, a local nonprofit theater company, for $725,000.

Evergreen’s Young Actors program was getting too big for its existing warehouse space, said Tricia Adams, chair of branding and development for Evergreen.

The theater company is also planning to lease out part of the building to other nonprofit organizations, particularly arts organizations.

In April, it appeared a different buyer would acquire Keller. The school board had approved an $800,000 offer for the school building, but that sale fell through.

The empty building costs the district about $145,000 annually; these costs include expenses like utilities, maintenance and groundskeeping.
