About 900 students at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, will be relocated temporarily to alternative housing when the fall semester begins later this month because construction on three residence halls has not been completed.
The Daily Press reports that Cedar Hall, Pine Hall and Oak Hall — three of the five residence hall the college is building as part of the West Woods project — would not be completed until mid-to-late October.
First-year students will be relocated to the buildings formerly known as Green & Gold Village and Richmond Hall, and returning students will be housed in Richmond Hall and the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel & Suites in Colonial Williamsburg, according to the college.
The school will provide free shuttle service between the hotel and campus. Roommate pairs will be maintained and resident assistants will be in place.
“Like with any construction project, delays can happen, and in this situation there isn’t any one particular thing but just sort of a string of smaller things that compiled,” William & Mary spokeswoman Suzanne Clavet said.
Clavet said professional movers will assist the students when they move into their residence halls in October.
The other two residence halls included in the project, Maple Hall and Poplar Hall, are ready for students to begin moving in on Aug. 22, according to Clavet.
