On-going construction of the Pennington Student Achievement Center at the University of Nevada at Reno (UNR) will likely cause some traffic and logistical problems for students returning to school.
The $44 million project will be built on the site where the Getchell Library was located, northwest of UNR's main Quad and is projected to open as early as 2017.
The presence of construction equipment, including diesel trucks hauling dirt that use a roadway just south of UNR's old gymnasium building and to the north of White Pine Residence Hall, will likely impede traffic patterns for the record number of 19,000 students who are expected to arrive at UNR when classes start Aug. 25, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Returning students will have to detour around the project, which is located in the heart of the campus. Moreover, the project will have students searching for increasingly scarce parking.
